A practical guide to choosing and installing the right flashing for metal roofs—ensuring watertight seals, long-term durability, and protection against leaks in all conditions.

Master Flash Standard #6 Grey EPDM

Why do I need flashing on a metal roof?

Every pipe or vent that passes through a metal roof creates a potential point for leaks. Flashing seals the gap between the pipe and the roof, preventing water ingress, draughts, and long-term structural damage.

The Master Flash Standard provides a watertight, flexible seal that moves with both the pipe and the metal roof.

What makes the Master Flash Standard suitable for metal roofs?

Metal roofs expand and contract with changes in temperature. The Master Flash Standard is manufactured from flexible EPDM or silicone, which stretches and moves without breaking the seal.

Its aluminium base also moulds easily to corrugated or standing seam profiles for a secure, lasting fit.

Can one flashing fit different pipe sizes?

Absolutely—The Master Flash Standard has a stepped conical design that can be trimmed to the required pipe diameter. A single flashing can therefore cover a wide range of sizes, reducing the need to hold multiple different products in stock.

How does it cope with extreme weather?

EPDM and silicone are both resistant to UV radiation, ozone, and temperature extremes. This means the Master Flash Standard will not crack or deteriorate quickly, even under direct sunlight, heavy snow, or strong winds.

Do I need special tools to install it?

No. The Master Flash Standard is designed for straightforward on-site installation. You simply cut the cone to the pipe size, slide it over the pipe, press the aluminium base into the roof profile, and then secure and seal it with screws and roofing sealant.

Will it work on both corrugated and standing seam metal roofs?

Yes. The formable aluminium base bends easily to match the shape of corrugated sheets or the flat sections of standing seam panels, ensuring a watertight seal in either case.

What is the difference between EPDM and silicone versions?

EPDM: Suitable for most general roofing applications, highly resistant to UV and weather.

Silicone: Withstands higher temperatures, making it better for flues, chimneys, or hot exhaust pipes.
The Master Flash Standard is available in both versions so you can choose the material that best matches your project.

How long does a Master Flash Standard last?

When installed correctly, the flashing will last for many years – often for as long as the roof itself. Both EPDM and silicone are proven materials that provide long-term durability.

Can it be used on residential as well as industrial metal roofs?

Yes. The Master Flash Standard is suitable for residential homes, agricultural buildings, warehouses, and commercial metal-clad structures. It is a universal solution for sealing pipe penetrations on metal roofs.

What if my pipe is not perfectly vertical?

The flexible design of the Master Flash Standard can accommodate slight pipe angles. For steeper angles between 35° and 65°, the Master Flash Extreme Angle is a better option, but for most standard applications the Standard version is sufficient.
